(Tulsa-AP) -- Low-income Tulsans are getting help on their income taxes from teams of students in the Americorp Civilian Corps from Denver and Charleston, South Carolina.
The students are trained to tackle taxes for those who come into the Community Action Project of Tulsa County for free income tax preparation. The two teams will pull in the nearly eleven million dollars in Earned Income Tax Credits for the Project's program.
The teams' participants says it's fun to be the bearer of good news when someone's getting a refund. The students stay at guest houses provided by the University of Tulsa.
C-A-P-T-C provides them with one free meal a day. And for all their hard work, the students earn education awards worth about $4,725 to play off school loans or to pay for tuition.
