A Tulsa drag race turned deadly for a 30-year-old man Sunday. The accident occurred around 4:30 PM Sunday afternoon at Tulsa International Raceway.

Skid marks show Scott Matthews veered to the right and went off the track into a field. "On the side of the road there are tires and a railing,” said Tulsa police officer Nick DeBruin. “The car went through the railing and then cart-wheeled several times before it came to its point of rest."

The front of the Chevy Nova caught on fire, but emergency crews quickly put it out. Amateur drivers frequently build their own cars for sanctioned drag races at this track. No one else was hurt in the crash. Authorities are still looking into what caused the accident.
