TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A $30 million expansion at the University of Tulsa will add soccer, softball, track and fitness facilities to the campus. New student apartments also will be built in the 30-acre expansion that began Friday with a groundbreaking ceremony. "This is a landmark day in the 105-year history of the University of Tulsa," TU President Bob Lawless said.
The complex will bear the name of TU alumna Donna Hardesty and will be completed in two phases. The soccer and softball fields are expected to be completed by next fall and a tennis center will be open by spring 2001. The second phase will include a nine-lane track and field, a multipurpose field, a 65,000-square-foot student health and fitness center and student apartments. No completion date has been set for that phase.
