(Weleetka-AP) -- Weleetka teen-ager Melissa Puckett says she's getting excited for her first prom. Of course, in Weleetka it's not just HER first prom. It's everyone's first.
Graham High School is holding its first prom ever, after a presumed ban on dancing has kept the school without one for generations. Graham counselor Wanda Mankin says the school had its land donated to it with orders that no dancing would be allowed on the campus. She says it was followed unquestioned for decades -- until this year.
It's all because of a petition by three Graham juniors, who went before the school board to campaign for one. There are big plans for the April seventh gala. About one thousand dollars has been raised, though organizers are looking for more. Mankin says she's now going to find out if Graham students can dance.
