Actor gets award for playing Oklahoma's Will Rogers
(Claremore-AP) -- Actor James Whitmore will receive the Will Rogers Memorial Commission communicator award on February 16th in Washington, D-C. Whitmore has played Rogers in a one-man show for 30 years.

(Claremore-AP) -- Actor James Whitmore will receive the Will Rogers Memorial Commission communicator award on February 16th in Washington, D-C. Whitmore has played Rogers in a one-man show for 30 years. Rogers was a famed Oklahoma humorist who died in an a plane crash in Alaska in 1935.
The award recognizes Whitmore's performances in "Will Rogers' U-S-A," which opened in 1970 at Ford's Theatre. The award will be presented before Whitmore begins his final 12 performances of the show. Whitmore is the ninth person to receive the award.
