(Wichita, Kansas-AP) -- Two newspapers are reporting Koch (COKE) Industries will pay $35 million for oil spills in six states. A news conference is scheduled later this morning by Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol Browner to announce what is believed to be a record amount reached with one company for environmental violations. The Wichita Eagle and the Tulsa World reported the agreement between the Wichita-based Koch and the E-P-A for 310 oil spills in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri and Alabama.
The U-S Justice Department and Texas brought suit against Koch. A trial was scheduled in Houston for 295 spills and another trial for 15 spills was set in Tulsa. They were removed from the court schedule after months of negotiations.
