(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma Transportation Commission has awarded 50 million dollars in road contracts. Its' part of the first phase of a one billion dollar road building program approved in 1997.
Transportation Secretary Neal McCaleb says the contracts are the largest letting of capital improvement projects in any one month. The 50 million dollars includes 15 projects. But McCaleb says it's essential for the department to get the green light on phase two funding in this legislative session. He says if funding isn't approved, it could shut down or delay project lettings.
McCaleb says with the lettings awarded to date, the department has obligated almost half a billion dollars or 450 million dollars of the 700 million dollar first phase. The second phase is contingent on a growing economy.
