Tulsa has been selected as the site for the Japan-U.S. Southern Conference, Nambukai, in the fall of 2000. Previously held in Dallas, Houston and New Orleans, this annual conference gives senior-level executives from Japan and their counterparts from Texas,
Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Mississippi an opportunity to build bi-lateral business relationships. The conference in Tulsa will last for two and a half days, and 150-200 people are expected to attend. Unlike
other meetings held in the U.S., attendance at Nambukai is not delegated to middle or lower level staff; participants come from the highest
decision-making levels of their organizations.

Chamber staff and other leaders from the Tulsa area recently traveled to Tokyo to begin making preparations for the conference.
