A publishing company has stopped the presses
on a controversial new book about George W. Bush.

St. Martin's Press says it's suspended publication of "Fortunate Son" after questions were raised about the author's background.

The Dallas Morning News reports that author J.H. Hatfield was paroled from a Texas prison in 1993 after serving time for a felony
conviction.

Hatfield told the newspaper it was a case of mistaken identity.

St. Martin's has stopped all sales, promotion and other publishing activities for the book.

Hatfield alleges Bush was arrested for cocaine possession in 1972 -- but that the matter was dropped after he performed community service arranged by his father, former President Bush.
