A Comanche County judge has sentenced a
former Drug Enforcement Administration agent to one year in prison for making an indecent proposal to a teen-ager.

Kevin Dewayne Waters was convicted Aug. 25 in connection with a May 9, 1998, incident in which he is alleged to have used the
Internet to solicit sex with a teen-age Lawton girl.

Oklahoma City police officers and retired DEA agents wrote letters in support of Waters, an Edmond resident, and out of concern for his well-being if he were imprisoned.

Waters' attorney, J.W. Coyle III, asked for a suspended sentence and counseling for his client, but District Judge Mark Smith chose
the prison term.

Assistant District Attorney Bill Riley had asked
the court to follow the jury's recommendation.

Coyle indicated he would appeal.

Waters was arrested in a Lawton shopping mall after he agreed to meet the girl to whom he allegedly made an indecent proposal to in
an Internet chat room.

Police searched his home in Edmond after his arrest and seized his computer and photos of children having sex with adults.

Waters' employment has been officially terminated, said Julio Mercado, DEA special agent in charge of the Dallas field division,
which includes northern Texas and Oklahoma.

He had been with the agency since August 1988.
