(McAlester-AP) -- Lists, documents and messages from
southeastern Oklahoma leaders were pulled from a time capsule today
as part of McAlester's centennial celebration.

The capsule had been tucked away behind the cornerstone of the
Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Officials called one item pulled from the capsule timeless.

State Senator Gene Stipe told the crowd that the Bible contributed
by the McAlester Ministerial Alliance was still current.

The time capsule opening attracted several hundred people. The time capsule had been discovered by local historian Steve
Adams, who learned about it from a 1927 article in the News-Capital
& Democrat.

As well as opening the time capsule, officials also planned to
insert a new time capsule in the cornerstone. The new capsule will
be inside a new copper box inserted during a ceremony presided over
by Masons from the Scottish Rite Center.
