The robust economy has been good for small businesses and is reflected ina dramatic decline in business bankruptcies. During the first five months of 1999, 118 Tulsa businesses filed for bankruptcy. This represents a 41.3 per cent decrease from the same period in 1998, when 201 businesses were forced to close their doors. Job growth and rising personal incomes are combining to reduce bankruptcies, particularly among service providers and retailers that are beneficiaries of increased local spending.
