The latest city council meeting Thursday night ended almost as soon as it began, when several councilors walked out.

They were supposed to decide whether to approve the signatures on a petition to recall councilors Chris Medlock and Jim Mautino. But when four of them walked out, the council didn't have a legal quorum and had to adjourn.

That left most of the council's business undone. Medlock and Mautino left because they didn't think it was proper to be involved in discussions on their own recall.

Councilor Jack Henderson says he left because he doesn't think the signatures have been properly validated. "And why hasn't the administration decided to go ahead and do the right thing by checking the signatures with the voters registration rolls, it wouldn't take that long to do, and we could put this whole thing to bed."

Councilor Turner says he left to retrieve something from his office and didn't intend to disrupt the meeting.
