BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- An alternate drinking water source could be on tap for Bartlesville residents.

The Bartlesville City Council will consider a request Tuesday to approve an application for a permit to use surface or stream water from Kaw Reservoir east of Ponca City in Kay County.

Bartlesville officials began researching alternative water sources after the area went through a water shortage in spring 2002.

Currently, the primary water source for the Bartlesville area is Hulah Lake, while some water from the city-owned Hudson Lake is also used.

Officials met last month with officials from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, the Tulsa Corps of Engineers and the Nature Conservancy to discuss three different studies relating to Bartlesville's water issues.

The cost of the application to the Water Resources Board is $2,000.
