NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma placekicker Trey DiCarlo is leaving the OU football team.
DiCarlo says the reason is not because he lost his job to freshman Garrett Hartley last season, but that he's tired of football. He says he first began questioning whether he wanted to continue playing football after his sophomore season in 2003 when he set an OU record with 14 straight field goals and was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award given to the nation's top kicker.
But he slumped last season and missed six of his last eight field goal attempts before being replaced by Hartley.
DiCarlo says he's planning to stay at OU and get his degree in criminal justice, but is also thinking about transferring to another school to play soccer.
Many OU coaches are vacationing and couldn't be reached for comment.
DiCarlo says he's spoken with head coach Bob Stoops and special teams coach Bobby Jack Wright and is leaving on good terms and with no regrets.
