OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ School officials in Oklahoma City are reconsidering plans to close four elementary schools.
The schools were to be closed as part of the MAPS for Kids project approved by voters in November 2000. The nearly $700-million plan calls for renovation of some schools and construction of others while some were to be closed.
But the school board is now being asked to consider keeping open four schools that were to be closed. Three are in south Oklahoma City and one in the northeastern part of the city.
District planning director George Kimball says the changes are needed because of an unexpected increase in the number of students in southern and northeastern Oklahoma City.
