OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Jury selection begins Monday in El Reno for first-degree murder trial of a man accused of killing an elderly Depew couple during an October 2003 crime spree.
The trial of Scott Eizember was moved to El Reno in Canadian County because of pre-trial publicity in Creek County.
Eizember is accused of beating 76-year-old AJ Cantrell to death and shooting Patsy Cantrell in their home. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Authorities say Eizember killed the couple so he could wait for his ex-girlfriend to return to her mother's home, across the street from the Cantrell's. He's also accused of beating his ex-girlfriend's mother and shooting and wounding her then 16-year-old son.
Eizember eluded police for 37 days before authorities say he stole food and a car from a church and drove to Arkansas then kidnapped a doctor and his wife and drove them and their van to Texas.
He was arrested in Texas after the doctor shot and wounded Eizember, who then went to a hospital for treatment.
Prosecutors expect jury selection to take about three days.
