OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City police arrested a high school student after finding he took a gun to school.

The Santa Fe South Charter High School student told officials he carried the gun because he feared for his life. The teenager's name and age were not released. He was arrested on a complaint of possessing a weapon on school property.

School Principal Chris Brewster says he and a campus resource officer found the weapon on the student after another student reported the boy had a gun.

Brewster says a friend of the boy was killed last month in a shooting in south Oklahoma City and the boy was scared.

Brewster says there was apparently no intent to harm anyone at the school
