OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Governor Henry Wednesday announced proposals to raise teacher pay, improve student achievement, pay for kindergarten programs and increase funding for college scholarships.
The governor says his plan would cost $114-million and would be paid for through economic growth and money from a state lottery and expanded gaming.
Henry's plan includes improving health benefits for teachers raising teacher pay to the average pay received by teachers in the region. It calls for full-day kindergarten and increasing funding for the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program that provides college scholarships to students with good grades who stay out of trouble
The plan also would increase the amount of math classes students are required to take and create a new tests students would eventually be required to pass before graduating.
