NEW YORK (AP) _ SBC Communications expects to eliminate about 13,000 jobs after its 16-billion acquisition of AT&T.
The projection came during an occasionally heated meeting with investors day after SBC announced plans to buy AT&T.
SBC has about 3,000 employees in Oklahoma while AT&T has fewer than 100. SBC spokesman Andy Morgan says it's too early to talk about where jobs will be cut.
SBC says the divisions that could have excess staffing following the merger included about 5,100 from management of long-distance and local networks. Another 5,100 could be cut from sales, billing and other customer support.
About 2,600 additional positions could be eliminated in administrative areas such as human resources and the two companies' regulatory and lobbying operations.
