Airman Joshua Johnson risked his life to save a mother and her child after their car plunged into the Arkansas River in December.

Johnson dove into the freezing water and rescued both the mother and her two year old son.

Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry presented Johnson, along with rescuers Robert Ewens and Jeremy Wade, with the Heroic Oklahoman Awards Friday for their bravery.

Johnson was proposing to his girlfriend on the Tulsa Pedestrian Bridge when the accident happened.
