OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State lawmakers will consider a proposal to increase the fine for failing to make sure children are properly secure in car child safety seats.

Senator Clark Jolley of Edmond says the current fine of $10 plus $15 in court costs is nothing more than a slap on the wrist. His bill would increase the fine to $100 plus court costs.

Jolley says auto accidents are the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 1 and 4. He says correct use of child safety seats would reduce traffic fatalities for infants by 71% and by 54% for children from 1- to 4-years-old.
