OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ US Navy Petty Officer First Class Stacy Reddig is getting commendations and awards for his lifesaving actions last April.
Reddig was on his way home to Moore from a trip to Kansas when he stopped at Guthrie for gas and saw a woman pleading for help. The woman's 5-year-old son was choking on candy and wasn't breathing.
Reddig applied the Heimlich maneuver, then mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive the boy.
Tuesday night Reddig was presented the Navy Commendation Medal, plus the VFW Lifesaving Award, a citation from Governor Henry and a certificate of appreciation from the mayor of his hometown of Ellinwood, Kansas.
Reddig is a 17-year Navy veteran stationed at Tinker Air Force Base's Strategic Communications Wing One.
