McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- State prison officials say an inmate is dead after hanging himself in his prison cell.

Steven Rash was found hanging from the draw string of a laundry bag shortly after 11 Monday night and died about an-hour-and-a-half later at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Prison spokeswoman Lee Mann says Rash was being held along in a cell in the disciplinary unit where he was taken earlier yesterday after a confrontation with another inmate.

Mann says Rash was serving sentences for several convictions in Tulsa County including rape, robbery with a firearm and shooting with intent to kill.
