BOULDER, Colo. (AP) _ Colorado's interim athletic director says the department he's heading has to become more customer friendly and more aggressive in getting new sponsorships and new revenue streams.
Jack Lengyel replaced the ousted Dick Tharp on December first. He delivered a ``state of the department'' address yesterday, saying most or all of the changes he's putting in place mesh with Tharp's strategies.
There are other things he wants to address too: relatively low pay for coaches and poor basketball attendance. Lengyel also says his department's public image needs improvement.
He says morale in the department is rising, allowing staff to refocus on change and moving forward.
Lengyel will be paid 16-thousand dollars a month. He says his top priority of balancing the budget has already been accomplished, and he's working on next year's budget.
His second priority involves improving internal and external communications. He says he plans monthly coaches meetings, weekly staff meetings and monthly birthday parties.
