Arkansas River development is going full steam down in Jenks. First, the Oklahoma Aquarium, then lots of new shopping areas opened.
News on 6 reporter Rick Wells shows us the first new business in the RiverWalk Crossing Development, also in Jenks.
Lunch is on at Gary's Grill. Lots of hamburgers, fries and big slabs of homemade pie. Gary Hahn's kept the menu simple, one he's familiar with from his years at Brownie's, but he's always wanted his own place. “Always, should have happened years ago."
Now he's finally open, the first business to open in the new RiverWalk Crossing Development. A $40-million project by developer Jerry Gordon. RiverWalk Crossing will feature several restaurants a movie theater, even a hotel, plenty for everyone. "Grab a magazine or a book out of our bookstore, we've got coffee shops, we've got a cigar store coming in, spas and haircutting salons." There's a small amphitheater for live music. There will be jogging and bike trails which will connect with the other river trails.
Businesses to fill the space have not been hard to find. "We are almost 100% on phase one." Every business here will have a front row seat facing the river. "This is designed where everyone has the sun to their back the buildings are shading them. They're gonna be looking out at the river it's gonna be a great setting."
And the addition of the planned low-water dam down stream will guarantee the river they see will have water in it.
Gary's Grill is open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. Other businesses in the center will open between now and the first of May.
