ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) -- A judge in Ardmore gives the city sales tax election an OK.
Voters in the November 18th, 2003 election approved a quarter-cent tax for schools in Plainview and Ardmore, and another quarter-cent tax for city capital improvement.
The validity of the election came into question when bond company attorneys discovered the city had inadvertently failed to fulfill state law, which required the publication of the "Notice and Proclamation of Special Election" once in a newspaper 10 days prior to the election.
District Judge Tom Walker gave the election his stamp of approval Thursday after hearing testimony that sample ballots had been published in The Daily Ardmoreite two days prior to the election and that the campaign promoting the sales tax included media interviews, advertising, fliers and a video played on the city's cable television station.
