OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Governor Brad Henry has proclaimed Monday Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day.
Guthrie resident Dyann Arnett requested the day to bring more awareness to the genetic disorder. Arnett's child suffers from the disorder that affects 1,000 to 5000 people in the United States and Canada.
Arnett says most children are misdiagnosed.
Symptoms of the syndrome includes developmental delay, speech impairment, lack of speech or word usage and movement and balance disorder.
