OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The U-S Attorney's Office in Oklahoma City says it has recovered 23 (M) million dollars from criminals and in civil judgments in 2004.
Oklahoma's Western District U-S Attorney Robert McCampbell says as long as they feel they have a chance to collect, they go after the money.
And there's a lot to keep after.
As of Thursday, there was an unpaid balance of 96 (M) million dollars in civil and criminal restitution and fines in McCampbell's district. He represents 40 counties within Oklahoma from Lincoln County in the east to the state's western border.
McCampbell's office collected nearly 1-point-7 million dollars from convicted criminals in restitution, fines and special assessments in 2004. About 1-point-3 million of that was paid to crime victims.
