NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson has been chosen as the 2004 USA basketball developmental coach of the year.

USA Basketball officials said yesterday that Sampson also has been nominated for the US Olympic Committee's developmental coach of the year.

Sampson served as the USA World Championship For Young Men Qualifying Team head coach, guiding the team to a gold medal a the world championship tournament and a 1-and-0 mark in exhibition play against Canada.

The award was established in 1969 to recognize a USA Basketball head coach who made a significant impact on the success of individual athlete and team performance at the developmental level.
