OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Treasurer Robert Butkin urged Oklahoma families Tuesday to consider opening an Oklahoma college savings account as a holiday gift.
Under the state program, taxpayers who open an account before Dec. 31 may qualify for a tax deduction of up to $2,500 per contributor per account on their Oklahoma income taxes.
"Oklahoma parents and family members have a tremendous opportunity this holiday season to give a child the greatest gift of all -- a promising future," Butkin said.
Under the program, contributions may be deducted from Oklahoma taxable income.
