The News on 6 is learning more about a Tulsa Public School bus accident. The driver of this bus says she ran it into a utility pole nearly three weeks ago because the brakes failed.
An independent review by the bus' manufacturer found the brakes didn't fail. But they did have excessive wear that could have contributed to the wreck. TPS transportation officials are now reviewing the investigation findings to see if anything can be done to prevent future accidents.
TPS transportation director Bob Haddox: "We want to determine if the wear patterns on those brakes are more excessive than other brakes of other types of buses, and if so, we're going to have to increase the frequency of checks on those buses, especially if they run in areas where there are a lot of hills that could accelerate that wear pattern."
Transportation officials will also look into whether the bus driver performed a required pre-route inspection of the bus.
