A turkey shortage could keep thousands of Tulsa area residents from celebrating Thanksgiving this week.
The folks at Tulsa's John 3:16 Mission handed out almost 2,000 turkeys and food baskets Monday. But they say they need all the help they can get to save Thanksgiving for families in need.
News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says John 3:16 Mission is hoping people in the community can help pick up the slack in their turkey supply.
Last year, the problem was exactly the opposite. John 3:16 Mission ran out of Thanksgiving fixings, but had more than enough turkeys. This year, the mission has bought out its wholesalers' entire supplies of turkeys and they still need more.
Director of Family and Youth Ministry Steven Whitaker: "We just went through them in a hurry, so we ran out of turkey today, ran out late yesterday, ordered some more overnight and then we ran out again. It could be over a thousand people over the next day and a half that we miss out on if we don't find some more turkey."
If you can donate a turkey, you can drop it by either John 3:16 Mission location, at 506 North Cheyenne or at their distribution center at 2027 North Cincinnati.
You can also give them a call at 587-1186.
