SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) -- A Sequoyah County jury has convicted a man in the shooting death of his niece.

The panel deliberated less than an hour Thursday night before finding 48-year-old Daniel Moore guilty of fatally shooting Garade Grisback last June.

According to court papers, Moore shot the 24-year-old with a 45-caliber revolver while he was trying to scare her into being a better mother.

Moore's attorney argued that the shooting was accidental.

Associate District Judge AJ Henshaw followed the jurors' recommendation and sentenced Moore to life in prison without possibility of parole.
