OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Nearly 8% of Oklahoma's public schools are listed on a federal improvement list

According to a preliminary list released Thursday, 39 of 550 high schools did not meet federal requirements of the "No Child Left Behind Act."

In September, officials released a list of 107 elementary and middle schools that did not meet the basic federal requirements.

Overall, 146 schools in Oklahoma, or about 8.1%, do not meet minimum standards for attendance, test scores and graduation rates. There are 1,799 primary and secondary schools in Oklahoma.

In Oklahoma County, 15 high schools in various school districts did not meet the requirements.

While attendance rates and reading scores suffered at high schools in the Oklahoma City Public School district, students at the schools did meet the requirements in math.

In Tulsa County, seven schools in the state's largest school district were named on the list.

Tulsa Public Schools officials say attendance and graduation rates in the district are unacceptable.
