OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Carson and former Republican Rep. Tom Coburn are about even in their race for the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.
The statewide telephone poll of 300 likely voters conducted Thursday by SoonerPoll.com for Oklahoma City television station KOKH and Lawton station KSWO showed Carson with 43.3 percent, Coburn with 40.6 percent.
Independent Sheila Bilyeu had 2 percent and 14 percent were undecided.
The poll had a margin of error of 5.7 percentage points.
The tight contest to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Don Nickles has become one of the most watched Senate races in the country, with both the national Republican and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committees throwing considerable support behind their respective candidates.
