WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. Senator Tom Coburn is recovering from successful surgery he underwent this morning to remove a benign tumor on his pituitary gland.

Coburn press secretary issued a brief statement Wednesday afternoon saying the procedure involved no complications and that Coburn is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.

It added that the 59-year-old Muskogee Republican is expected to return to his duties full time by the end of the month.
