OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Former NBA All-Star Otis Birdsong has been offered the job of president of the Oklahoma City Cavalry.
Birdsong was in town Tuesday as Cavalry officials made a presentation to the City Council in an efforts to secure a venue for the Continental Basketball Association team.
Team owner Baron Hopgood said details of Birdsong's hiring must be worked out, but that Birdsong is committed. Birdsong said he would consult with his wife and give owners an answer in the next few days.
Birdsong was the general manager of the Arkansas RimRockers team that won the A-B-A title in 2005, but the team didn't retain his services after moving to the N-B-D-L last season.
After being drafted out of Houston in 1977, Birdsong played 12 seasons in the N-B-A, including stints with the New Jersey Nets and Boston Celtics. He and Cavalry coach Micheal Ray Richardson were teammates on the Nets for about four seasons.
Hopgood said he hopes the team is able to reach an agreement to use the city-owned Cox Convention Center or State Fair Arena as the team's home stadium.
