A recent rash of homicides has Tulsans on edge, there have been three deaths in just three days. The News On 6’s Chris Wright reports the wave of violence started with what police call a “thrill killing†of a homeless man early Thursday.
Police say a homeless man was in the wrong place at the wrong time early Thursday morning. They say the man had wandered into an abandoned apartment, near 7th and Lewis, looking for a dry place to sleep. According to authorities, four men also showed up to party in the same apartment, and when they found the homeless man inside, police say they beat him to death, apparently for the thrill of it.
Tulsa police have arrested two people in connection with the beating, brothers Dusty and Leslie McGee. They are still searching for a third person.
"We're looking for another subject, a person of interest at this time, 20-year-old man by the name of Patrick Fleeger," said Tulsa Police Sergeant Mike Huff.
The second homicide happened Friday evening at the Normandy Apartments, located at 6221 E 38th St. Police say 19-year-old Mikiel Kirby was stabbed to death by his girlfriend's sister.
Officers say the three shared the apartment with several other people. The sister told authorities that after being hit by Kirby, she picked up a steak knife and stabbed him in the chest.
The violence continued early Saturday morning. Police say a man in his 30's was found dead at the Chestnut Bend Apartments on South Rockford. Officers say one of the man’s roommates woke to find him lying on the floor face down. Police believe the victim’s girlfriend may have stabbed him in the back.
