OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson is suing three foreign tobacco companies for allegedly failing to pay into an escrow account as required by state law.
Edmondson says Tabacalera Nazionale of Paraguay, Prime Mover Manufacturing of the Philippines and Sudamax Industria of Brazil aren't making the required payments.
The law requires companies which chose not to join the 1998 tobacco lawsuit settlement to pay into the escrow fund.
The payments are about equal to what a company would've paid if it joint the settlement and the money is used to pay any future claims made against the company.
Tabacalera Nazionale makes cigarettes under the brand name Infinity; Prime Mover makes Desert Sun, Melbourne and Unify; while Sudamax makes the brand Mack.
