More than 1,000 campers were rained out Memorial Day weekend, but that didn’t mean they could leave. The campers at Turner Falls Park, near Davis, were trapped in the park after heavy rains caused flash flooding sending Honey Creek over its banks, flooding the only road leading into the park. Campers inside couldn't get vehicles over the flooded road, so park officials opened a building inside the park and the Red Cross delivered food and supplies to the rain soaked campers.

After the heavy rains Saturday Park manager Tom Graham said he and other park employees warned campers that if they didn't leave they might get trapped inside.

"We can't force people to leave," Park manager Tom Graham said. "If they've paid to stay, they can stay."

Graham said much of his Sunday was spent keeping campers away from the creeks raging waters.

The floodwaters subsided enough by Monday that motorists could cross the low-water road.

``The park is going to be closed for two or three days,'' Graham said. ``We've still got a lot of cleanup to do.''

No injuries were reported in the flooding.
