SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ An Oklahoma City-based chemical company has started working with landowners in South Dakota as part of a plan to clean up contamination from uranium mines.
Officials with Tronox _ formerly Kerr-McGee Chemical _ say a study will begin this summer in the area in northwest South Dakota to develop a plan to control runoff and reclaim the land.
The uranium mines were developed in the 1950s and '60s and a recent study found uranium, arsenic and other contamination in both the land and water as far as 15 miles from the mines.
