Road Rage Victim Talks

A case of road rage goes too far. A married mother of three was driving home from work last week, when a man in traffic fired a gun at her car. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports that bullet landed in a terrifying place. The .45 caliber bullet went through the passenger door behind the driver's seat and right into a baby's car seat, the place the woman's 3-year-old son usually sits. Had he been with her that day this would be a much different story.

Amy says she's the least likely person in the world to be shot at; she's a mom who works and takes her kids to sports and lives in a quiet, country neighborhood. But, shot at she was.

"He cut me off. I honked my horn and let it be, moved over to the far right lane," road rage victim Amy said.

Amy was on U.S. Highway 169, headed north to I-44 Thursday afternoon around 4:30 when the minor incident happened. Shortly after she honked, she heard a loud noise and realized, minor had just turned major.

"I felt something hit my car, I'm looking around my car, thinking did I blow a tire? Did my speaker blow?" said Amy.

"It was loud enough you knew something happened?" asked News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright.

â€œYes, pieces, fragments hit the back of my hair," Amy said.

When she pulled over at a QuikTrip she realized she had a bullet hole in her car, and not just in any spot, it had gone right through her baby's car seat.

"None of it sank in until I got home and saw my toddler, and then of course I lost it, and I could lose it right now just thinking about it," she said.

She is shocked something so little could've turned into a life or death crisis. She says this is a warning for all drivers.

"I didn't flip him off, I didn't curse him, do anything. I'm used to having kids in the car, so I kept it clean. I just never in a million years thought me, of all people," she said.

Amy is grateful her kids spent Motherâ€™s Day playing in her drive-way, when it could've turned out differently because of someone so careless and something so stupid.

Amy says she'll think twice about honking at another driver again. She hopes someone saw the white Mitsubishi Eclipse that had I-D as the first two letters on the license plate. She's so scared about him seeing her again; she wants to paint her car another color and is worried about driving the same route.
