Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor could decide Friday whether to approve or veto the annexation of the Tulsa County Fairgrounds. Taylor brokered a last-minute deal with Tulsa County to delay annexation until January 2009. Initially, several Tulsa city councilors were not happy with what they called "an 11th hour deal." In the end, those city councilors voted Thursday night to support the compromise.
The deal gives the Arabian Horse Show a rebate for the increase in sales tax. It also includes the county paying for some city services, like fire protection. "It was a compromise, the best of a bad situation. Even though it makes it very hard on us but for our constituents we're willing to step up and make it happen," says Tulsa County Commissioner Randi Miller.
The Tulsa County Fairgrounds governing board unanimously voted to approve the deal at a meeting earlier this week.
