OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state Senate has again failed to override Governor Brad Henry's veto of a bill that would prohibit abortions at state hospitals unless necessary to save the mother's life. State Senator James Williamson called for the second override vote and it again failed on a 31-to-16 vote with 32 votes needed to override a veto.
Governor Henry vetoed the measure on April 18th saying he feared it would add to the suffering of poor women with difficult pregnancies. He also was critical of the bill because it doesn't include exceptions for rape and incest.
The bill is opposed by the Oklahoma State Medical Association and other medical groups who say it could put the health of some women in danger.
