Four people, including two children are dead after an apparent murder-suicide incident on Grand Lake. Delaware County Sheriff's deputies believe 34-year-old Aaron Deforest killed his estranged wife, 26-year-old Sarah Smith and her children before killing himself Tuesday at a home on Monkey Island.
Officials were originally called to the Deforest residence on a welfare check about 3 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, no one answered the door. When sheriff's deputies went inside, they found three bodies with gunshot wounds and a fourth victim in a car.
The two children were identified as 4-year-old Skyler Price and 2-year-old Joshua Deforest. Price, who was Smith's son from a previous marriage, was found inside the home and Joshua Deforest's body was found in a car seat inside Smith's car.
Neighbors like David McOwen say they are in shock. "You don't expect this in small community, I grew up in New York, been in Atlanta, New Orleans, you hear about this every day, but you come out here and you don't expect that."
Sheriff's deputies say this was not the first time they were called out to the home. Deputies say Sarah Smith had filed a harassment complaint with the sheriff's office just a few days ago.
Monkey Island is a popular resort area located at Grand Lake, about 75 miles northeast of Tulsa.
