OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A state Senator whose first attempt to override the governor's veto of a bill on abortion says he plans to make another try tomorrow.
Tulsa Republican James Williamson's first effort came up one vote shy in the Senate two weeks ago.
Williamson's bill would bar the use of state hospitals and state funds for abortions in cases of troubled pregnancies.
It would not affect elective abortions performed at private clinics.
The bill initially passed the House easily and the Senate on a 32-to-16 vote. That would have been exactly the number of votes needed to override the veto.
Shawnee Democrat Charles Laster voted for the bill, but then changed his mind after talking to the governor and sustained Henry's veto.
The Democratic governor has said the bill could interfere with the doctor-patient relationship and pose health risks for some women. He also notes that it does not include exceptions for rape and incest.
