A group of Coweta teens is headed for Hollywood. The local band, Crooked X, quickly became popular during a nationwide contest on CBS's The Early Show. The News On 6’s Heather Lewin reports now the band is about to board a plane for the big time.

It’s just an average day at junior high for a group of Coweta boys, except for that TV crew from LA following them around. Meet Crooked X, 13-year-old hard rockers, hoping to make a splash in Hollywood.

"We just thought it'd be really cool if we had a garage band, and we could play family events and things like that, but you know the kids got really dedicated and wanted to do something with their music," said Bill Simpson, father of Crooked X's drummer.

So they entered a contest looking for the next big act and made it all the way to the finals.

“It was actually pretty cool,” said Crooked X bass player Josh McDowell. “I've never been on TV before. It was pretty fun."

While they didn't win, they still scored a multi-media deal, albums, TV appearances and more.

“We're leaving from here to go to LA at 6 in the morning, and we're signing a contract with MPM, which is McGee-Proffer Media, and it's a production deal so we're pretty excited about that,” said McDowell.

It's another case of local kids bringing fame to small town Oklahoma, a shot at stardom that has everyone cheering them on.

From the classroom to the lunchroom, the buzz has already begun. The CBS crew is spending two days with the rockers here at home, and then it's off to LA.

“It's pretty cool,” said McDowell. “It's gonna be fun."
