Assistant U.S. Attorney And His Wife Charged With Child Abuse

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A federal prosecutor in Muskogee and his wife are being charged with abusing their two children. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Littlefield is charged with three counts of felony child abuse and Dawn Littlefield faces one count. Mike Littlefield is accused of beating the couple's 17-year-old daughter and of twice hitting their 10-year-old son.

In papers filed in Muskogee County District Court, Dawn Littlefield is accused of beating her daughter.

An attorney for Dawn Littlefield says it will become clear during a preliminary hearing that neither of the two have done anything that wasn't in the best interest of their children.

Mike Littlefield hasn't been at his office since early this month but his attorney says he hasn't been fired.

The U.S. Attorneys Office in Muskogee issued a statement saying the Department of Justice takes all allegations of wrongdoing by its employees seriously and that it has and will continue to take appropriate action in this case.
