Tulsa Public Schools' state of the art HelZar Challenge Course is now open to the public. The $3 million facility is the largest indoor, outdoor ropes course in the country. It was built on the campus of the former Lowell Elementary School and was paid for by Henry Zarrow, philanthropist Walter Helmerich and TPS. The course was a dream of former superintendent Dr. David Sawyer.
"He said the one thing I'm really sorry that I didn't accomplish was this challenge course," said Helmerich. "He said out of my budget, he saved some money, but it was only a third of it. So he said I'm just going to have to leave it and not get it done, and I said Henry, couldn't we help with that other two thirds."
The course includes sky trails, a skyscraper tower, a climbing wall and covered picnic pavilions.
